2008 Scarf Exchange

The Handweavers, Spinners and Dyers’Guild of Western Australia Inc. are hosting the 2008 Scarf Exchange with the theme ‘OUTBACK’

Please join us in the 2008 Scarf Exchange – well actually scarf, bag, or anything that really jumps out at you to be made of your fibre. The theme is ‘Outback’.

Send us 150grams of fibre by 1st of May 2008, and you will receive a different package of fibre upon which to work your magic by the end of June. When you have crafted this, return it to us with the crafters’ information sheet by 1st October. After an exhibition to give justice to your lovely articles, your fibre, now in it’s different form, will be returned to you.

This fibre may be spun, woven, felted, knitted, crocheted, or any other textile craft. The fibres must be clean and prepared for working. Unsuitable fibres will not be accepted. Australia, and particularly Western Australia has strict quarantine laws. Raw fibres must be washed or scoured, free from vegetable matter and seeds. If the authotities reject the fibre it is destroyed, so please pack your fibre individually.

Entry fee: Australian Participants   $AUD 15.00,   New Zealand Participants   $AUD 15.00,   Other Overseas Participants   $AUD 20.00

Overseas entries attract the higher fees due to the overseas airmail postage rates. This fee must be paid by bank draft/ cheque in Australian dollars. Cheques to be made to Handweavers, Spinners and Dyers Guild of WA Inc.

Fibres West 2008

Fibres West 2008 is the 6th regional forum to be held in Western Australia under the auspices of the Australian Forum for Textile Arts Ltd (TAFTA). It is taking place from the 5th -11th of October in Bunbury. A fully residential program is offered over the 5 days providing participants with opportunities for learning and the exchange of ideas with other textile craftspeople.
The list of classes available and the standard of the tutors is incredible, tutors come from all over including India, USA and each state in Australia is represented. Yes, yours truly will be tutoring a class on the delights of weaving with texture. I am looking forward to it emmencely.
